Course summary

Shalamar Medical & Dental College Lahore is open to all academically qualified candidates of either gender, regardless of religion, race, creed, color or domicile. Students from anywhere in Pakistan and overseas may apply.
There is no minimum or maximum age limit for admission in the MBBS Course. Due to the particular nature and demand of the profession a candidate should possess adequate mental and physical health. The candidate is required to present a valid TOEFL or IELTS with a minimum score of 500 or 5.5 only, if the medium of instruction of study two years prior to application for admission/entry test is not English. An alternate to TOEFL and IELTS is a certification by NUML Islamabad after a one year English language course.
A student, who has availed four chances to clear the first professional exam MBBS / BDS and has been expelled on that account, shall NOT be eligible for continuation of medical/dental studies and shall NOT be eligible for fresh admission.

  • Pakistani / Local Students:

The Candidate must have passed the FSc. (Pre-Medical) examination from a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan with at least 60% unadjusted marks (660/1100).

  • Foreign / Expatriate / Overseas Students:

Any other examination of a foreign university equivalent to the Intermediate Sciences Examination (Pre-Medical Group) of a Pakistani Board subject to the following:

  • The examination is recognized as equivalent to Intermediate with Chemistry and Biology as essential subjects with 60% unadjusted marks by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) Islamabad. It shall be the responsibility of the candidate to settle their cases with IBCC and should get equivalence certificate from IBCC, Islamabad for recognition of their qualification.
  • The equivalence certificate of such candidate will not be accepted if he/she has not studied and passed the subjects of Chemistry and Biology in his/her equivalent examination recognized by the IBCC.

Entry Test Requirement:

  • The Candidate (Local & Foreign student) must have appeared in the current year Entrance test of the University of Health Sciences.  Entry test of Federal Government Or any other Provincial MCAT is also acceptable.

                                       OR

  • A Candidate who has passed SAT-II (Only Foreign student) examination with a minimum score of 550 in each of the three subjects (Chemistry, Biology & physics / mathematics) or MCAT with minimum aggregate score of 24. SAT II and MCAT score shall be valid for 2 years.

Admission requirements

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS & BDS

1. For local Pakistani students

The candidate who has passed the Intermediate Science (FSc) Examination (Medical Group) securing at least 60% marks in aggregate, unadjusted, from a Pakistani University or an equivalent examination of a Board of Secondary Education in Pakistan.

OR

The candidate who has passed any other examination of a foreign University or examining body, which contains the subjects declared as essential by Council in scope and standard, is found equivalent upon certification by the IBCC to the Intermediate Science (FSc with 60% marks) Examination of a Pakistani University or Board of Secondary Education,

OR

The candidate who has passed an examination higher than the FSc of a Pakistani University with Biological Sciences provided she has passed the Intermediate Science (FSc Examination) (Medical Group) securing at least 60% marks in aggregate, unadjusted, from a Pakistani University or an equivalent examination of a Board of Secondary Education in Pakistan and she shall be eligible. However, the appearance in the central entry test arranged by Provincial Authority is compulsory for admission in MBBS/BDS program.2. For overseas students

i.  The candidate who has passed an examination equivalent to intermediate level of Pakistan from a foreign education system with three science subjects out of which Biology and Chemistry are essential subjects with 60% marks in each as certified by IBCC, is eligible to appear in the entry test of MBBS/BDS. On open merit seats no admission shall be given except through the provincial entry test. Subject wise equivalence by IBCC shall be acceptable; study group mentioned by IBCC shall have no effect on the eligibility for admission if any.

ii.  On foreign seats only and not on open merit seats, in lieu of the entry test of the admission authority, the candidates is required to have passed SAT II examination score with minimum 550 marks in each of the three science subjects of which two have to be Biology and Chemistry.

iii.  The candidate is required to present a valid TOFEL or IELT with a score of 500 or 5.5 only if the medium of instruction of study two years prior to application for admission/entry test is not English. An alternate to TOEFL and IELT is a certification by NUML University Islamabad after a one year English language course.

Required Documents

Eligible candidates for admission must submit attested copies of the following documents along with the application forms:

  • Matric/Senior Cambridge or equivalent certificate Six Copies
  • FSc (pre-medical) or equivalent certificate Six Copies
  • Detailed mark sheet FSc (Pre Medical) Six Copies
  • In case of Foreign qualified candidates, an equivalence certificate from Inter-Board Committee of Chairman, Islamabad.
  • MCAT result sheet (if applicable) Two Copies
